If you’re sick of scrolling through endless social media ads and other types of spam to get to decent content, newsletters are one option that can help you stay up-to-date and informed in an intentional way, without all the other crap getting in the way.
Below I list some quality, free, non-promotional newsletters. These are in addition to content summary newsletters run by outlets such as Democracy Now and Common Dreams, or newsletters by specific organisations and movements such as the UK Palestine campaign (which tend to have a very local audience).
News and analysis
- Excluded Headlines – My weekly newsletter with a summary of Global South news as well as recommended reading list for more in-depth understanding of the issues
- Inside Climate News – Weekly and twice-weekly options for climate news and analysis, somewhat US-Centric but with some global stories also.
- Caitlin’s Newsletter – Hard hitting analysis and critique, particularly of the US, empire, capitalism, and the mainstream media.
- Graphic Rage – Gender and social justice issues expressed through comics
- The Anti Empire Project – Anti-empire analysis from podcaster, writer, and academic, Justin Podur.
- African History Extra – Really indepth, important lessons on African history.
- The Overview – Weekly contextualising of the climate crisis and the intersections between justice, climate, and the environment.

- Global Inequality and More 3.0– An exploration of issues like universities as factories, abundance and climate change.
- Africa Watch – Analysis of the main social, economic and political processes unfolding on the African continent, with particular emphasis on Zambia.
- The Continent – A weekly newspaper produced by African reporters, photographers, illustrators and editors.
- Americas Migration Brief – Weekly migration news sorted by country in the Americas, mostly mainstream news sources, available in English, Spanish, Portuguese.
- CEPR has a range of news roundups, including for Haiti, Latin America, Europe, and themes like government, and inequality. Their news is based on wires (which tend to be fairly eurocentric and business first, but okay for a glimpse at what is happening).

- Sprinkled Inspiration Writing Prompts – Very simple, daily writing prompts (on a break, resumes July 1, plenty of prompts on the site though).
- Random Daily Art – One random piece of art daily in your inbox.
